Evergreen Line installing ClassNK-NAPA GREEN on chartered container vessels

Taipei, April 10, 2015

Comprehensive eco-efficiency software will increase fuel efficiency and business intelligence significantly on Evergreen Line chartered container vessels

Evergreen Line, one of the world’s leading container carriers, has commenced installation of ClassNK-NAPA GREEN software on chartered container vessels. At the conclusion of a highly competitive tender process, ClassNK-NAPA GREEN software – developed by NAPA, the leading global maritime software house and ClassNK, one of the world’s leading classification societies – was chosen to provide a total solution for planning, monitoring and optimising ship operations.

Enabling greater understanding of the operation of its chartered fleet to improve efficiency is the key driver behind the adoption of ClassNK-NAPA GREEN. Using the system, shore-based management teams are able to monitor, record and analyse data from chartered vessels in real time.

Noboru Ueda, Chairman & President, ClassNK commented: “When we began developing ClassNK-NAPA GREEN with NAPA we saw that there was a need for new tools to help owners and operators better monitor and optimize the efficiency of vessel operations. Now just a few years later, we are excited that many of the world’s leading shipping companies are choosing to implement ClassNK-NAPA GREEN across both their owned and chartered fleets. We have had a long relationship with Evergreen, and we can proudly say that Evergreen has
long been at the forefront of this trend and our industry as a whole. We are greatly honoured that Evergreen has chosen to use ClassNK-NAPA GREEN on their vessels, and promise our full support as we enter this new phase in our partnership.”

Juha Heikinheimo, President, NAPA Group commented: “We extend our wholehearted thanks to Evergreen for choosing ClassNK-NAPA GREEN and also to our partner ClassNK in
working to deliver this best-in-class operational efficiency solution. Installation of our solution aboard the vessels will also offer Evergreen eco-efficiency optimisation through trim optimisation and speed and voyage routing features, which are expected to reduce fuel consumption between 4-6% in trials. This allows accurate benchmarking and KPI calculation based on ClassNK-NAPA GREEN’s unique Dynamic Performance Model, which – in separate sea trials made public by NAPA and ClassNK in 2014 – was proven to estimate a vessel’s performance with an accuracy of 99.6%.

“The vessels to be installed with ClassNK-NAPA GREEN will be chartered rather than Evergreen-owned, which reflects the trend of charterers demanding both greater accuracy and data transparency from their operators, as well as increased efficiency in operations. We see the growing level of data transfer between charter parties as very positive. We look forward to working further with Evergreen to ensure they get the best fuel efficiency, modern business intelligence and all of the genuinely unique benefits of ClassNK-NAPA GREEN.”
