Ship design is moving toward more connected, integrated and AI-assisted ways of working. At the same time, emissions regulations are reshaping what it means to build a competitive vessel. Facing these shifts, the ability to collaborate across disciplines, organizations and borders has never mattered more.

The NAPA User Meeting exists precisely for this reason. Every year, it brings together naval architects, shipyards, classification societies and academia in one room to share knowledge, challenge each other and shape what comes next. As Emma Fisher, Software Team Manager at Lloyd’s Register, put it:

This June in Helsinki, over 100 experts from 20 countries and 57 organizations gathered around the theme Transforming the Future of Ship Design. The discussions covered the challenges that matter most to naval architects today: how to turn growing design complexity into clarity, how to move from disconnected workflows to truly integrated ones, how AI is becoming a productivity multiplier for the profession, and how operational simulation is helping teams design vessels that perform in real sea conditions from day one.

That spirit of open exchange is what makes the event valuable year after year. Lennard Buitendijk, Department Manager of Naval Architecture at Nevesbu, shared his thoughts:
