HX Expeditions sails with NAPA Checklist
How HX Expeditions is digitalizing onboard safety checklists with NAPA Checklist, co-developed for the realities of cruise operations: a guided digital workflow, one shared record, and fleet-wide oversight from shore.
Expedition ships operate where few others go: the Northwest Passage, Svalbard, Greenland, the Antarctic Peninsula. In waters like these, safety and consistency cannot depend on remembering which version of a paper checklist is the current one, or on re-keying the same information twice. And for a fleet where no two ships are identical, keeping every procedure correct, current and recorded is a daily operational task, not a filing exercise.

Why HX co-developed NAPA Checklist
HX already runs NAPA Logbook across its fleet, and has done for over three years. So when the company looked at digitalizing its checklists, it chose to build on a partner it already trusted, and to shape the product around how its crews actually work.
“So many solutions are being offered to the maritime industry. We prefer to stay with a trusted partner, and we are really happy that NAPA has introduced this new checklist solution at the right time.”

From paper checklists to one-click submits
Across a differentiated fleet, paper checklists carried a hidden cost: the burden of maintaining hard-copy records, the time it took officers to complete and file them, and the need to maintain a separate template for each ship. Every one of those is a place where a step can be missed, or a version can quietly drift out of date.

What the crew will notice: A tool only helps if the crew uses it. NAPA Checklist is a mobile-first app that presents each checklist as a guided workflow in the correct order, with the current approved procedure built in.

Control from shore, oversight across the fleet
NAPA Checklist gives shore teams direct control over checklist content through NAPA Fleet Intelligence. Templates can be built and published to one vessel or the entire fleet in minutes, and shore teams can see the current version running on board.
“We will have direct control over the content of the checklists, which means we can push an update to the vessels, separately or to the whole fleet. It will give us good oversight of the current version on board.”
With NAPA Checklist, updating a procedure no longer means re-issuing a document and hoping every ship picks up the change.

Audit-ready, always
Because every action is recorded automatically, with a timestamp and the name of the person who completed it, and fed into the official ship’s logbook, the record is ready when an inspection is.
“We see potential to gain efficiency in our auditing, because we will be able to review the records beforehand and already have a good picture of how the ship is doing before embarking on board.”
The next phase

What this means for expedition and cruise operations
NAPA Checklist replaces paper and static PDF checklists with a guided digital workflow. For operators, that changes four things:
Connected, not another silo. NAPA Checklist is part of the NAPA Safety Solutions suite, running on a shared ship-to-shore data layer alongside NAPA Stability, NAPA Emergency Computer, NAPA Logbook and NAPA Fleet Intelligence. The result is one consistent, shore-visible record.
The current procedure, built into the task. Crew are guided through each step in the correct order, with the current approved procedure carried into the task. It can be configured for checklists required under ISM and SOLAS, as well as an operator’s own Safety Management System (SMS), supporting crews in following the right procedure every time.
One record, written as the work happens. Every action is recorded automatically, with a timestamp and the name of the person who completed it. Completed tasks feed directly into the NAPA Logbook, eliminating a second round of data entry.
Fleet-wide control from shore. Through NAPA Fleet Intelligence, shore teams build and publish updated templates to one vessel or the whole fleet in minutes, and monitor completion status – complete, in progress, or overdue – in real time without calling the ship.
