NAPA-DSME Power® off to a successful start

May 25, 2011 14:22

Lillestrøm, Norway, May 25, 2011 - A mere month after announcing the strategic partnership between Onboard-Napa Ltd and Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering Co. Ltd (DSME) on the NAPA-DSME Power® software for DSME-designed Green Ships comes news of the first order for the system. Russian shipping giant Sovcomflot is introducing the ship operations optimisation package on six (6) newbuildings with an option for six (6) more. The first installation for the Novoship-operated tankers is scheduled for 2012.

Following the contract NAPA-DSME Power® is fast becoming an integral part of DSME's Green Ship concept. This will present DSME's customers with the unique advantage of adopting a solution that already today covers not only all present recommendations but also the highly anticipated future regulatory requirements for energy-efficient ship operations
̵ something no other software package on the market can claim to accomplish.

Among other benefits that Novoship can expect to yield from the use of NAPA-DSME Power® are reductions in emissions, operational costs, and fuel consumption. Prior use of the software package has indicated the annual savings potential on fuel costs alone to be about 3-5%. In the case of a single VLCC this would equal to approximately 250 000 - 400 000 USD per annum depending on, for example, the number of operating days and propulsion power. Moreover, in the above example the decreased fuel consumption would also directly result in a significant emission reduction corresponding to
 1 200 - 2 000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2) .
