NAPA Outfit handles and organizes basic outfitting and machinery components and manages the related information. The main function is to define the locations of outfitting components in the NAPA product model. The principle is to keep the model as flexible and intelligent as possible. This way outfit modelling can be started at the early stages of the design process.
The compartment arrangement defines the ship in terms of spaces. To the spaces, the structure arrangement adds the shell, decks and bulkheads. The structural members of the main structures can be added in the NAPA Steel system whereas NAPA Outfit adds objects inside the spaces, thus integrating these objects into the product model.
One of NAPA Outfit’s central features is that the location of outfit components can be defined in relation to other objects in the model. This functionality is called topology. Utilizing topology, definitions can be made without knowing the exact coordinates. Furthermore, thanks to the adaptability of the model, the locations are automatically updated changes are made to the main geometry.
The outfit components can, but need not, have a geometric shape. Without geometry, the objects can be used, for example, for storing maintenance data of components or for other administrative purposes. For instance, components can be sorted according to the compartment of their location.
The modelling functionality of NAPA Outfit allows the equipment to be handled with a degree of accuracy that is sufficient for space utilization management. For this purpose, the geometry of the pieces needs to be modelled at a sufficient level of detail. Normally, simplified representations are used, serving the need for identification of the object in a plot and checking the space required.
The geometric modelling of these components can be done either with NAPA or by relying on externally provided models. Equipment components can be used for visualization in a 3D form, or they can be included in arrangement plans and similar drawings. The information can be used for producing reports of various kinds, including weight and cost calculation.
External Modelling
For the actual 3D modelling of system components, NAPA supports a number of formats that can be used to import component models from other applications. This integration has been taken furthest with the NUPAS-CADMATIC (Plant Modelling and Piping Design Software) application.
Visualization
NAPA Outfit provides visualization tools in the form of OpenGL graphics for 3D. Various kinds of drawings are provided for 2D. The system’s table structure also supports different kinds of calculations and reports.
