History of NAPA

The NAPA software development was started already in the 1970s at the Wärtsilä shipyard in Helsinki, Finland.

In 1987, the development group was organized as the NAPA Business Unit of the Wärtsilä-owned information technology company Witec Oy. In 1989, this business unit became an independent company, Napa Oy (Ltd) through management buyout.

1992       Launching of a new product, Onboard-NAPA, now called NAPA for Operations
1994       NAPA certified by Nippon Kaiji Kyokai
1995       Onboard-Napa Oy (Ltd) starts operations
1996       Onboard-NAPA certified by Germanischer Lloyd and Det Norske Veritas
1997       Onboard-NAPA certified by Lloyd’s Register
1998       Initiating a new product, NAPA Steel
1998       NAPA certified by Russian Maritime Register of Shipping
1998       Onboard-NAPA certified by Maritime and Coastguard Agency and Russian Maritime Register of Shipping
1999       Launching of a new safety concept for damage control and decision support
1999       Launching of NAPA Power
1999       Launching of NAPA Computer-Based Training
2001       Representation Office in Japan starts operations
2002       Representation Office in China starts operations
2005       Representation Office in Korea starts operations
2005       Launching of a new product line, NAPA Ship Performance Solutions
2007       Napa Japan KK founded
2008       Napa Software Services India Pvt. Ltd founded
2008       Napa Romania SRL founded
2009       Napa Korea Ltd founded
2011       Launching of NAPA-DSME Power
2012       Launching of a joint ClassNK-NAPA GREEN solution
2012       Representation Office in Singapore starts operations
2014       ClassNK acquires NAPA
2014       NAPA operations in Greece start with an office in Piraeus
2014       Onboard-Napa Ltd is merged with Napa Ltd
2015       NAPA operations in Brazil start with an office in Rio de Janeiro
